Earnings Disclaimer & Income Disclosure
Last updated: August 2026. Please read this disclosure carefully before making any career or business decision based on content found on this website.
Insurance agents who work with Sahlman Insurance Group are independent contractors paid entirely by commission. There is no salary, hourly wage, or guaranteed income of any kind. Earnings vary widely from agent to agent. Most agents earn little or nothing during the initial ramp-up period. Any income figures, calculator outputs, or hypothetical examples on this website are illustrations only — not representations of typical results. Past agent results do not predict future results.
1. Independent contractor status
Agents who partner with Sahlman Insurance Group are self-employed independent contractors, not employees. As independent contractors, agents are responsible for their own taxes, business expenses, licensing fees, and compliance with applicable law. Sahlman Insurance Group does not withhold income taxes or pay employment taxes on behalf of agents.
2. Commission-based compensation
Agents earn income exclusively through commissions paid by insurance carriers on policies placed with clients. Commission rates vary by:
- Insurance carrier and specific product
- Policy premium amount and coverage type
- The agent's contract level (which may change over time based on production)
- Whether it is a first-year commission or a renewal commission
Commissions are paid by carriers, not by Sahlman Insurance Group. Details of commission structures are provided during onboarding and vary by carrier and product.
3. Earnings are not guaranteed
There is no guaranteed income, minimum earnings, or salary associated with this opportunity. An agent's earnings depend on many factors — some within and some outside their control — including:
- The number of appointments held and policies placed
- The products and carriers available to the agent in their state
- The agent's effort, consistency, and skill in conducting appointments
- Local market conditions and competitive factors
- Client underwriting decisions (not all policies applied for are issued)
- Policy lapses and charge-backs, which may reduce net compensation
- State licensing requirements and timing
Many new agents earn little to nothing during the initial licensing and ramp-up period. Reaching consistent production typically requires weeks to months of effort and learning. Some agents never reach consistent production. Individual results vary significantly.
4. No average earnings representation
Sahlman Insurance Group does not represent any specific figure as a typical, average, or expected level of agent earnings. We have not compiled or audited average earnings data across all agents associated with our agency, and any such figures would vary substantially based on tenure, time period, product mix, and individual effort.
If you have encountered any specific income figures in conversation with a recruiter, in marketing materials, or in social media content, please treat those as illustrative examples only — not as guarantees or averages.
5. Calculator and illustrative figures
Our website includes tools (such as an Agent Income calculator) that allow users to model hypothetical income scenarios based on inputs they provide. These tools are for educational illustration only. The outputs are mathematical projections based on the numbers you enter — they are not quotes, predictions, or guarantees of what you will earn. Actual results will differ from hypothetical illustrations.
6. Override and team-building income
Some agents choose to recruit and mentor other agents and may earn override commissions on the production of agents they develop. This is entirely optional. Override income is additional and does not reduce the commissions earned by agents in any downline. Override income is also subject to all of the same variability and lack of guarantee as personal production income. Building a productive team requires significant time, consistent effort, and the successful recruitment and mentorship of other licensed agents — outcomes that are not guaranteed.
7. Licensing requirement
Earning commissions as an insurance agent requires holding a valid life insurance producer license in any state where you conduct business. Obtaining a license requires passing a state licensing examination and meeting your state's requirements, which in some states include mandated pre-licensing education. Licensing costs, requirements, and timelines vary by state. Passing an examination or completing any required coursework does not guarantee licensure. See our Get Licensed guide for more information.
8. Not an offer of employment
Nothing on this website — including this disclosure, the Careers page, the How It Works page, or any other content — constitutes an offer of employment, a binding contractor agreement, or a promise of any specific opportunity. Submission of a career inquiry or application does not create any legal relationship unless and until a separate written agreement is executed.
9. Questions
If you have questions about agent compensation, commission structures, or how the opportunity works, please ask us directly before making any career or financial decision. We are happy to answer questions honestly and without pressure.
